About Frederick Corriher Wine
Frederick Corriher Wine is a small but dynamic French wine import company that works only with small growers and farmers...vignerons that grow their own grapes, work their own vines, and make authentic wine.
Our owner and founder, Frederick Corriher, is committed to only importing wines that are made in an authentic fashion and that very much speak of their place...their terroir. Nothing manufactured or over-manipulated. Virtually all of the estates we represent are either certified organic (or biodynamic) or are in organic conversion. Frederick believes strongly that responsible treatment of the planet and its ecosystems is tantamount to sustainability and also that this method of vine-growing and wine-making makes the most authentic wine. He also feels that a grower that is committed to organic or biodynamic farming likely has the work ethic in the winery and commitment to excellence that is most attractive to him. By a large margin, Frederick turns away far more producers than he ultimately chooses to represent, all in an effort to only put his name on bottles of wine that truly speak to him.
The Frederick Corriher Wine portfolio is centered exclusively in France, and it is comprised of both internationally-renowned producers as well as young, up-and-comer winemakers. Frederick particularly enjoys discovering producers who are in the beginning stages of transforming their family estate into one of those widely-renowned estates previously mentioned.
Frederick Corriher, Owner & Founder
Known for both his intensity and his passion for his growers’ wines, Frederick Corriher has a unique ability to virtually transport both clients and consumers alike to the cellars and tables of France and share with them the very soul of each wine in the portfolio.
While Frederick Corriher did not grow up in the wine business, it can certainly be said that he grew up in wine. His father, Fred Corriher, Jr., taught wine appreciation courses out of his home when Frederick was very young, and wine, mostly French wine, was always on the dinner table. It was during a trip to Burgundy with his father after graduating college in the summer of 1999 that a love affair with the French vignerons and their culture began.
After working for 3 years as a political consultant following college, Frederick entered the wine business as the wine buyer for a small wine bar/wine retail store in the Charlotte, North Carolina area. In 2004 he became the wine buyer for a large retailer before joining Robert Kacher Selections as a Regional Manager in December of 2004. It was during his 5 1/2 years with Robert Kacher Selections that Frederick learned the mechanics of the French wine import business.
Additionaly, in May of 2004, Frederick was inducted into the exclusive Burgundian wine society, the Confrérie des Chevaliers du Tastevin at the Château du Clos de Vougeot in France.
Frederick founded Frederick Corriher Wine, a reiteration of Route des Vins Imports, in the fall of 2014. He lives in Charleston, South Carolina, with his fiance, Lindsey Walker, and his beloved cat, Miles.
At the core, Frederick Corriher Wine is nothing without our wonderful, dedicated growers! We are merely an extension of them and our job is to be an extension for them. These folks are farmers and they are artisans. They are also terrific, hard-working families that are dedicated to making the best and most authentic wine possible in a given year.
Nothing excites us more than introducing their wines to consumers, knowing that people are enjoying these wines with their friends and family or on a special occasion or at a great restaurant, and reporting that news back to the growers in France!
Also at our core is doing business with these vignerons for the authenticity of their wines and the authenticity of their personal spirit and those attributes alone. We are much more likely to buy a wine and recommend it to both restaurants, retailers, and consumers in the U.S. because we feel that it is great wine made by great people (and perhaps it's AWESOME with Coq au Vin) than we are to recommend it because a wine journalist likes it or gave it a certain score.
At the end of the day, wine, including the wines we import and sell, is about friendship and fellowship, sharing a bottle with people you love or admire, and usually around a table. That spirit guides our decision-making, and we search for vignerons that produce wines that are meant for the table. We hope you'll enjoy our wines and our growers' wines in that fashion and with the knowledge that there is a wine-making family in France that is DELIGHTED that their wine is at your table!
